New Riders

Welcome to the wonderful world of track racing! We hope you enjoyed the introductory class on how to operate a track bike and the basic rules of the velodrome. (Remember the golden rules - don't stop pedaling and always turn left!)

Track is certainly gaining popularity and the MVA has seen a flood of new riders who are brand new to the competitive biking world. For some, the thought of jumping right into racing may seem a little daunting without further training. It may have left you wondering, where do I go from here?

In response we have created a training session designed to further educate new rider handling skills. These sessions are run by experienced track racers on Thursday nights from 6-7:30pm and run from the end of March through the end of August. We also added a ladies only track session 7:30-9pm following the new rider training. Rental bikes are included for the women.

Things you can expect to learn from these sessions include: pacelining, accelerations, getting out of the saddle, using the appropriate communication (stick, stay and rail), looking before you move up track, jumps, etc. Feel free to bring as many questions as you have regarding anything to do with track racing.

The MVA wants to insure you have a good racing experience and have the tools you need to succeed. All you have to do is ask and take advantage of our training sessions. We look forward to seeing you out there.

Happy pedaling!
