Ryan Miller's Election Statement
I have grown up racing at Marymoor (since 1991…) and it’s time to give back to what has truly been a second home. Most at the track know me from my racing and coaching background, but it's also worth noting that I am a UW business graduate in entrepreneurial studies. Prior to that, I spent a number of years racing professionally on both the road and track, which included racing the Six-Days in Europe and competing on almost every Velodrome in the U.S. It is with this background that I aim to develop creative ways to engage local communities in the track, turning track enthusiasts into racers, and continuing to make Friday Night Racing an attraction for spectators. I can offer a hands-on approach to helping build a stronger development program at the track, and would bring a fresh approach to many of Marymoor’s current programs.
While I believe that the MVA is doing a good job of recruiting new riders to the track and giving them the basic skills they need to race safely, I feel we can improve on how we nurture these riders into competitive racers. This is something that the MVA could address through things like intermediate level track classes, open to category 3 and 4 racers, as well as sprint clinics and various other skills focused classes and workouts. The result of these sorts of programs would promote faster racing, better competition and performances at elite events, greater spectator interest, and would continue to put Marymoor on the path towards becoming one of the premier tracks in the United States.
