Adult Track Classes

The Marymoor Velodrome Association Track Classes are an opportunity to personally experience the thrill and excitement of track cycling in a fun and safe environment. Experienced instructors teach the fundamentals of riding the track in classes designed for all ability levels. Track-specific bike-handling and control skills, group riding techniques, and general velodrome history and understanding are covered in all classes. At the end of each class, when all participants are comfortable on the track bikes, the instructors provide an introduction to track racing. Basic racing rules and etiquette are explained, and then participants will have the opportunity to ride individual timed events and join in group races.

Upon completion of the MVA Track Class, riders are required to participate in our Thursday Night Racing program. Riders are required to race in the new rider race field at least two nights before progressing to the next level.

Track Classes - Details

When: The MVA Track class is a two part class, an "A" and a "B" class, which is offered throughout the track season (March-August). The "A" class teaches track cycling fundamentals and must be completed by anyone who wishes to participate in bicycle racing at the Marymoor Velodrome.

The "B" class is a supplemental class that focuses on group riding and race skills and is a requirement for riders who have no racing experience of any kind. You must have completed an "A" class to register for the "B" class. Riders who have road race experience (Road Category 4 Men or higher and Road Category 3 Women or higher) are not required to take the "B" class, but it is recommended as a way to improve your track racing experience. Instructor approval at the “A” class may also waive your “B” class requirement.

The "B" class may be repeated as many times as desired, for an additional fee.

All fees must be paid in advance of the class to confirm reservation.

Class Requirements: Designed for all abilities, the class requirements are relatively minimal.

  • You must be able to ride a bike.
  • Track bicycles will be provided. If you would like to bring your own pedals to fit your shoes, we will put your pedals on the loaner bike.
  • You must wear a helmet. We do not have any loaners, so please don't forget!
  • You must sign a release form. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must be present to sign.
  • Dress appropriately for riding and bear in mind that it can be rather cool at Marymoor (layers are best).
  • Bring water and a snack (especially if you do the one-day class).

For more information please read the track class FAQ or email the track class administrator.

Private Classes: Due to the growing popularity of our track classes, in order for teams to reserve dates for exclusive classes, they must pay in advance for the equivalent of a full class of 20 which is $1,000. For these exclusive team classes, instructors and assistants will be approved and/or provided by the MVA. Please email the track class administrator to make arrangements.

Note: Rain cancels the class. Since weather is extremely variable in the Puget Sound area, it is often difficult to know in advance whether the velodrome will be dry and safe for classes and riding. You can check the weather conditions near the velodrome with the Washington State Department of Transportation camera, which can be found on our Conditions page. Efforts will be made to notify you in advance if there is a class cancellation. You will be rescheduled with priority to another class of your choosing. If you cannot attend another class, you will be given a full refund.
