Youth Track Classes and Programs

The MVA Youth Cycling Program introduces participants ages 5-16 to the sport of track cycling through classes that focus on safety, skills and track cycling basics. We offer classes throughout the summer that are taught by experienced coaches and national level racers. The program continues to grow, and we offer something to appeal to all levels of bike riders.

The Classes:

PeeWee Pedalers: $40 For two-wheel bicycle riders ages 5-8 (no training wheels).
This class focuses on bicycle safety, skill building, and playing fun games on bikes. Participants ride their own bicycles and meet for three, one-hour classes on Saturday mornings from 9-10am. Class happens rain or shine. In order to offer this class to as many kids as possible, you may only register your child for one session per year.

The Programs:

If your student loved our classes (and we can almost guarantee they will!), we offer several ways to get more involved in track racing.

Kiddie Kilo: Entry-level racing for kids ages 2-12. Free entry.
One of our most popular programs, Kiddie Kilo participants race against their peers during Friday Night Racing. The only requirements are: parental permission, your own bike and helmet. Kiddie Kilo happens on the first and third Friday of each month.

Junior Training Sessions: For riders 9-16 who want to spend more time on the track. Free.
We offer training sessions for riders who have completed VeloKids and want to get more experience riding the track. Curriculum varies depending on participants, but the goal of the training sessions is to build on skills and prepare for racing.

Monday Night Junior Race Series: Track racing for ages 10-16. $5/night + cost of racing license ($10/day or $30/year) + MVA membership ($10/day or $40/year)
This dedicated junior racing program allows riders to race against their peers in the hunt for series prizes. Participants must have completed VeloKids in order to race and are able to use the rental track bicycles at no cost. Racers will compete in three races per night of varying lengths against riders of similar abilities. Nightly points and prizes will be awarded and season awards will be given at the end of the race series.

MVA Team Zoom: Junior Racing Team: For riders ages 10-16 who want to take their racing to the next level.
This program was started in 2009 to provide opportunities for riders to get more support with their racing. This is an entry-level team for kids who are just getting started in racing. Email the Youth Development Director if you are interested in joining the team.
