Interested in Junior classes?

Do your children like to ride bikes? Is your cul-de-sac tattooed by skid-marks and the neighborhood hill a racetrack, both up and down? Do family bike rides turn into team time trials? If your child loves to ride bikes, sign them up for a class at the velodrome today.

No matter where you are coming from, classes at the track can provide an exciting way to experience your summer. I got into bike racing through a Velokids class. I took the class, loved it, and started racing immediately after. For me, it was a unique opportunity to ride bikes in a different method than I was used to. I grew up going on rides with my family and racing around the neighborhood, but taking a Velokids class introduced me to many things: a new type of bike, an entirely new skill set, and it opened up the world of competitive cycling.

Classes at the velodrome do not necessarily need to lead to racing. If you do not want to race, great! Come out, experience a new type of cycling, and have fun in the sun.

We at the Marymoor Velodrome are excited to offer several opportunities for youth aged 5-16 to learn: basic riding skills, riding on the velodrome, and even racing on the velodrome. Here’s a brief breakdown of what we’re offering, starting the first week of June:

  • PeeWee Pedalers: Ages 5-8.
    • Bring your own bike!
    • Three classes of fun games, skill-building activities, and bicycle safety.
    • This is a great class for someone who just learned how to ride bikes without training wheels and wants to boost their bike riding skills!
  • Try the Track: Ages 9-16.
    • A 1.5-hour introductory class to try out track bikes and riding on the track.
    • Not sure if your child will like a three week class, or does not have the time to attend every session? This is a great way to feel out the interest.
    • Bring your helmet and give it a try!
  • Jennie Reed Juniors: Ages 9-16.
    • These three-week, six class sessions will teach riders basic track riding and racing skills.
    • We’ll get the kids riding on the track on day one, and by the last day of class they’ll have learned and raced in several different types of races!
    • After finishing class, Jennie Reed Juniors are eligible to compete at Monday Night racing!
  • End of Summer Camp
    • New for 2013, these weeklong camps for graduates of Velokids provide another opportunity for juniors to get on the track and practice their skills.
    • The class will evolve into more of an advanced class, focusing on racing tactics and ways to get faster.

We look forward to seeing more juniors at the track in 2013! For more information, visit:
