Here’s how to give back

There are 27 velodromes in the United States. We are fortunate to have one; not only in the aspect that there are so few, but also that our track is completely accessible to the public. Want to wake up at 3:00 A.M and ride the track? Feel free. Want to come out on a Tuesday morning on your road bike? As long as there are no track bikes out, feel free! Want to have the opportunity to race, or attend races, four days a week? At the Marymoor Velodrome, we have that freedom.

Our opportunities as racers and track bike enthusiasts come from an incredible amount of support and hard work from countless people and companies. The backbone of any racing community is the racer. That’s true, of course, but the people behind the scenes are the brain, heart, lungs and leg muscles.

Great news! There are a few ways that you can give back to our community (besides volunteering, of course).

  • Help out at our track cleanup day! April 27th from 9-2 is your chance to be a part of making the track look brand new and ready for the upcoming race season! Bring some gardening tools and help pull weeds, flatten mole holes, and perhaps find the fastest way from corner three to the finish line?
  • Support our sponsors! The MVA receives gracious support from many sponsors. I’d like to highlight some of them here. We are lucky enough to have partnerships with four different bike shops! We are not telling you that you must go out and buy a new bike (although you should!), but instead want to inform you of the best places to go when you’re looking for something new. We have great shops nearby, and we urge you to visit those shops instead of buying online. Yes, it’s easy to shop online, but you miss out on the expertise and personal connection found at a bike shop. Not sure what to buy, or how much to get? Ask the mechanic at a shop and not Google.

  • Element Cycles: Ran by one of our own racers, a self-proclaimed “disciple of the banked oval”. Element Cycles wants to be the Northwest’s source for track parts. Their expertise, proximity, stock, and genuine interest in track racing makes them the go-to shop for track related products in the Redmond area.

  • Mr. Crampy’s Multisport: Located very near to Marymoor Park, Mr. Crampy’s is the place to go when you are in the need of something while at the track. You can ride there! Flat your tube? Need some chamois crème? Head to Mr. Crampy’s. Curious about mountain biking or triathlon as well? Mr. Crampy’s is the place to go.

  • Recycled Cycles: For our Seattle crew, Recycled Cycles will have what you need. Regardless of how seemingly small or weird it might be, there is an excellent chance that they’ll have it in their large bins of parts. Stay nice to these guys: they’ll be doing neutral support for the Marymoor Grand Prix and you’ll never know what you might need help with come race day!

  • Gregg’s Cycle: Three locations, family owned, and a long history of supporting track racing and racers. Gregg’s has one of the biggest stock of cycling products in the area. Chances are you’ll find what you are looking for, in the size that you need, here.

Now that you know where to go, support your local bike shops! Even a small purchase such as a tube can form a connection. These shops are here to help you! Use their expertise in the cycling world to make your experience as a bike rider or racer a better one. Check out the rest of our sponsors here!
