Roadies? On the TRACK?! And we actually INVITED them?!?
Surprisingly, yes on all accounts. This coming Friday, the WSBA season party will be happening at the track, where riders are invited to spectate some excellent track racing while also getting free spectator admission into the race, as long as they present their race number on the way in.
They are coming… to drink our beer!!
On Friday night, road racers need only bring their race numbers as their rite of passage. Once inside, riders can get some complimentary soda and BBQ goodies, with again the only required payment being the race number. And yes, there will be lots of people that turn out, and for good reason – half way through our exciting race program will be an awards presentation to recognize all of the BARR recepients from the 2013 race season. You can see the WSBA story listing the recipients here.
You might think this is the first time that the road has flocked to the track. Besides last year’s event, it looks like some riders of big road fame don’t agree…
Rides the road, gets Yellow Jersey. Commits to track for 2016 Olympics, is a Boss.
But this is getting a bit off “track”. Immediately after the racing program and the WSBA party conclude, we’ll also be kicking off the hugely anticipated “Share to Honor Jerr” ride. This 24 hour event, completed in memory of Jerry Shafer, is a continuation of his dream to raise money for Retinoblastoma while also endurance riding on the track. Cheer on some of the bravest and most dedicated cyclists in the sport as they ride to raise money and honor the man that started it all.
If you want to register, or just read more about the ride, check out our story and get involved.
Hope to see you Friday evening!
