Jerry Baker was a well-loved member of the Pacific Northwest bicycling community, and one of its most stalwart supporters. He competed in state, regional, and national championship events from 1965 – 1985, rode 36 Seattle-to-Portland rides (including winning its first and only installment as a race), and logged more than 210,000 cycling miles in his lifetime.  Involved with the velodrome at Marymoor Park from its inception, Jerry helped develop and administer its racing and education programs. He was an active board member of seminal local cycling organizations including Marymoor Velodrome Association, Washington State Bicycle Association, and Cascade Bicycle Club. His contributions to cycling through community building and youth development have helped to foster generations of cyclists. Jerry Baker was truly everywhere in Northwest cycling. After his death in 2015, what had been known as simply Marymoor Velodrome was renamed the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome in recognition of his powerful guiding influence.
