The MVA wants to give a big shout-out to the folks around the track that step up and help make racing possible. Last month, we thanked John Klupar for his work on the registration system. This month, we want to highlight the race night volunteers, the lovers of logistics, the men and women behind the curtain, for all their contributions.
Back at the beginning of the season, the MVA was in search of dedicated souls, willing to surrender entire evenings to help organize and manage all that happens on race nights. Often, they did the nitty-gritty, down-and-dirty, logistics work that we all dread to do, and they did it with a smile on their face!
Yeah, Logistics. I couldn’t help myself. On the other hand, this could be a very awesome Halloween costume.
Acting as unseen forces, our volunteers of the month proudly and honorably completed many tasks – renting bikes, counting laps, telling jokes. Sometimes their work went unnoticed, yet they never sought compensation in return. They really were behind a curtain helping keep the whole evening going smoothly…
Darn that Toto and his plot-bending ways. Our volunteers aren’t as nefarious as the Wizard though.
I could continue to dilute this story with other musings and ramblings on our awesome volunteers, but instead I think I’ll just introduce them. The MVA proudly presents the Volunteers of the Month for July 2013:
- Dianna Boursaw
- Jim Christie
- Karen Claeys
- Linda Coppa
- Carol Johnson
- Steve Lindell
- Mayan Refai
These folks were all manning the renting bikes, counting the lap cards, scanning in racers, entertaining our officials and more! On behalf of the whole track cycling community, we thank you for your time and efforts in making racing possible this summer. Make sure to give them an ‘ole “Attaway” when you see them next and thank them for their help.
Best. Thumbs-up. Ever.
