If you have been living under a rock, you might not have heard our juniors are competing in nationals competition. And by under a rock, I mean not following our twitter feed and haven’t been out to the track in the past few weeks. Luckily for all of us, there have been some really great results and our juniors have made the Pacific Northwest VERY proud! Read on to get a recap of their accomplishments
.
The four juniors (from left to right) in attendance from Marymoor consisted of Andrea Casebolt (W 17-18), Croix Cameron (M 13-14), Brennan Hodgins (M 13-14) and Thorsten Askervold (M 17-18). Competitors from across the nation came together to race for several different national champion races, the most prestigious of them all being the International Omnium (named so for the type of Omnium, not the competitors)! The rider who performs best overall in a series of different events, including points, scratch, and the kilo/500m, will be awarded the top honors. Separate Points, Scratch, Match Sprint and Keirin events were also on offer for the older age groups. Let’s take a look at how our racers performed!
The Results
Brennan Hodgins – 6th Scratch Race, 7th Points Race, 11th 500m TT
Croix Cameron – 3rd Scratch Race, 7th 500 TT, 5th Overall Omnium
Andrea Casebolt – 3rd Points Race, 5th International Omnium, 6th Scratch Race
Thorsten Askervold – 1st International Omnium, 1st Scratch Race, 2nd Points Race

And the Big News!
Yes, you read those results right. One of our competitors took first overall in the International Omnium for Junior Men 17-18, as well as taking the top spot in the scratch race. To round it out, he placed second in the Points race. According to USAC World’s qualification rules, he is an auto-include for the next World Track Championships, held in Korea, just on his Omnium win alone! He was feeling like taking home one more jersey though! Congratulations to Thorsten for his success and we can all get excited for him to represent our region and our country on the international stage.
Here’s Askervold doing what he does best – attacking the front!
Be sure to congratulate our other competitors as well, as many of them had outstanding performances throughout and showed great sportsmanship in the competition.
