The Marymoor Velodrome Juniors have come home from T-town, and just in time for our Masters to head off for their own Nationals championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. If the success of our Juniors is any indication (and how good our masters performed last year!) we should expect amazing things from our Masters athletes. Read on and see who brought home the medals and who to root for in the coming week.
Juniors Nationals Recap
Five of Marymoor’s finest young athletes traveled to Trexlertown, Pennsylvania, competing in everything from Scratch races to Pursuits. All-in-all, our Juniors were able to bring home 9 medals and everyone competed extremely well.
Brennan Hodgins, our youngest competitor, placed 3rd in the 10-12 1k Scratch Race, bringing home a Bronze.
Harrison Devine placed second in the 17-18 Scratch Race, good enough to earn a Silver medal.
Stacey Guiffre’s list is a bit longer, check out all the great finishes she earned in the 15-16 Women’s racing!
- Fifth in the Pursuit
- Fourth in the Scratch
- Fourth in the Points
- Third in the Sprints
- Second in the 500m Time Trial
- Combined, Stacey finished Third in the Omnium
- And finally, Stacey, racing with Julia Sante, raced the fastest time in the Team Sprint, securing a Gold and a National Jersey! The picture above is them up on the podium!
Even though this was a great year at Nationals, I think the MVA is really excited to see even more competitors next year and to bring home even more medals!
Masters Send-Off
“Led” by MVA President Guy Tucker, Jane Chateaubriand, Eric Johnson, Matt Haldeman, Jeffrey Pyatt, Karen Claeys, and Tom Donohue round out the team representing Marymoor at Indianapolis July 30th to August 4th. (There might be some more, just let me know and I can update the list!) There are Seattle regional competitors in every kind of event! Check out the race schedule here and we’ll update the twitter with any big finishes as we hear about them!
I’ll throw it out there – let’s see if our Masters can take on the Juniors and bring home more ‘hardware’ from racing.
And about the title… I welcome any Masters that want to slug me a good one in the shoulder when they get back. It’ll be worth it!
