And the winner is…
After an amazingly competitive weekend of track racing, followed by days of scrutinizing the results sheets, the 2015 winner of the Fredrick C. Rehberger Washington State Team Omnium Trophy is Center Cycle/Kenmore Velo (32 points)! The margin of victory is only 3 podium spots better than Pyatt/Broadmark Cycling Team, who placed second overall (29 points). Therapeutic Associates and Greggs/Trek were separated by one podium spot for third place (TAI with 10/GT with 9). As Fred was a member of the Center Cycle/Kenmore Velo team, captain Kenny Williams really sums up the reason for his squad’s effort, “We’re doing this for Fred, Go Fred!”
This is the second consecutive year that Center Cycle/Kenmore Velo (CC/KV) has taken home the FCR Trophy. They did so again by playing team omnium chess to perfection. Not only did CC/KV compete with winning in mind, they raced well in all categories by putting racers on the podium in not only masters (the FCR Trophy used to be a masters only competition), but they placed consistently in juniors and elites as well, on both the men’s & women’s sides. This strategy proved to be the checkmate move in the tight battle for Fred’s Trophy.
Will CC/KV make it three consecutive years in 2016? Can Pyatt/Broadmark Cycling Team finally get ahold of the trophy, or possibly will another team step-up to finally take the prize? We’ll have to wait until next summer to find-out. Until then, a big congratulations to Center Cycle/Kenmore Velo on their second consecutive victory!
