This Friday night will be the “Festival Speed”, all in preparation for the 2013 feature event, the Marymoor Grandprix, coming up NEXT Friday and Saturday. Why is it called the Festival of Speed? Well, we’re going to crown our King of Speed by running a Keirin!
For those less familiar, the Keirin is one of the fastest and exciting races we offer on the track – a “moto” (motorized bike of some kind) rolls a field of 6 to 8 riders around up to speeds of 30 mph before pulling out of the way and leaving the field to sprint a lap and a half at top speeds reaching 40 MPH!! You can see why the winner would be titled the King of Speed. Roadrunner here holds the current track record for most times named King of Speed, so good luck knocking him out of the running.
The excitement doesn’t end this week though. There will be a $500 prize for breaking the Men’s or Women’s Flying 200m track record at the Marymoor GP! That’s right, it’s time to start pushing yourself for greatness. This goes for any of our visiting racers too! We can’t wait to host some of the fastest racers in the country and even around the world for the Grand Prix. The action starts the morning of Friday, July 19th and goes well into the evening of Saturday, July 20th. Please visit the website to check any details you’d like to know more about.
And let’s have a bit more fun, shall we?
That’s right, three BIG finishes at the Marymoor GP Keirin Finals. Vote for your favorite down below by commenting on the story and let us know who you think was the top King of Speed! And who is going to take it this year? Let us know down below.
Don’t forget, Mac & Jack’s, Patterson Cellars and Seattle Biscuit Company are all going to be around for the REST OF THE SUMMER! We had well over 300 people at the track last Friday. I’d like to think it was my good looks, but I have a feeling it had more to do with our fantastic sponsors. And in case anyone is worried, I did everyone a favor and made sure the tap was working and the biscuits were nice and flaky.
I confirmed that the tap does indeed work at least three times, so no problems there. And the biscuit was a complete sloppy mess, in the best way possible. You’ll LOVE it!
