Elite Nats Update

There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding our Marymoor Velodrome Master and Junior riders this past month, as both traveled for nationals competition and we saw the exciting Fred’s Race this past weekend. It’s now time to turn our focus to the Elite riders, age 17+, as they are just about to begin their second Nationals competition of the year in South Carolina.  Earlier, from August 9th-11th, the Elites already competed in the USA Cycling Elite Timed Track National Championships where we saw some good success, and there’s plenty more to look forward to in the upcoming Mass Start nationals. Read on in the story for how we’ve done thus far and who to be cheering for this week.

Three Seattle-area competitors traveled to Carson, California for competition in the timed events from August 9th through the 11th.  Representing our region was Kelly Plese, Collin Gibson, Tela Crane, and Jessica Cutler.  The biggest result on the schedule was that of Jessica Cutler, who managed a Gold Medal in the Team Pursuit competition (pictured above). Tela Crane rocked the Keirin AND the Team Spring, bringing home a Bronze Medal in both. Awesome!!

Now two weeks later on the east coast, our Marymoor Velodrome riders are starting to arrive in Rock Hill, South Carolina to continue on the search for glory! The USA Cycling Elite Mass Start Track National Championships will be to some of the fastest racing in the country all on one weekend where racers come together from every corner of the country to show their strength and their skills.  It’s one of the biggest events on the cycling calendar, and our racing community is certainly eager to hear back from those that are over in South Carolina on how things are going. Here’s a quick overview of our athletes heading off this year:

  • Gary Brown – The Resistance
  • Laura Chang – Bikesale.com
  • Tony Cordova – Fischer Plumbing Racing
  • Tela Crane – Broadmark Capital
  • Dave DiPetrillo – Broadmark Capital
  • Zach Jones – Garage Billiards
  • Kelly Plese – Slalom Consulting Racing
