The 2014 Roller Racing Finale was truly and exciting and fun filled night – a fitting end to a great event. Coming in to the night, there were several categories that were quite storied in their competition. We even had a bunch of first time riders give the roller rig a whirl. Read on for the full scoop.
What Everyone Really Wants to Know…
Each of our four categories (Elite Men, Elite Women, Masters Men and Masters Women) were fighting for the ultimate prize of roller race season champion. As reward for their hard work, our top scoring riders took home the grand prize of a Marymoor backpack, a Jenny Reed signed poster and (best of all) a lovingly-made one-of-a-kind Marymoor Roller Race Champion Belt. Warning: the belts are not guaranteed to function as actual belts should. But they certainly look sweet! See!?!
So who ended up on top? Let’s take a look.
Elite Men – Co-champions Andrew Carlberg and Tony Cordova. This was after they tied (down to the thousandth of a second) in their first 500 m, then proceeded to tie again in their 200 m “tie-breaker”. Oh well.
Elite Women – Amara Edwards. I think we needed some more Elite Women to show up, this was a SMALL field (I really just wanted more girls to come and school my wife!!)
Masters Men – Ken Dong. Easily the most back and forth category of them all, with the competition running really high throughout. Ken managed the final fastest time and took home the big prize.
Masters Women – Kathryn Beatie. She did all she could to hold off the field and came out victorious!
Well done to all our competitors. It was awesome to see the action play out over these three races.

It’s also worth pointing out that we got several first time riders some exposure on a track bike! Tech City Bowl patrons made their way over throughout the night and jumped up on our racing rig just to see what all the noise was about. I think we might have some new folks signing up for track classes some time soon!
A special thanks to Tech City Bowl for hosting our finale. It was a great atmosphere and our cyclists seemed to relish in the opportunity to get in some bowling in between their efforts.
