The JDRF Northwest Lumberjack World Championship

To coincide with the start of the regular season on the track, we are lucky to be hosting the very first JDRF NW Lumberjack World Championship at the Velodrome starting this coming Friday, May 30th.  Raising funds for JDRF, this event will feature some very fun and unique competition to motivate people to help meet their fundraising goal.  Read on to learn more about the first regular season night of racing as well as more about this awesome event.

The regular season on the track marks the beginning of the official season-long omnium competition for our racers, as well as some other exciting changes to the track.  For the first time, the overall omnium leader in our season long competition will wear our JL Velo Leaders jersey (Tour de France fans will know this as the “yellow jersey”, but ours is white and the competition goes all summer long!).  This will make it even more fun to come watch the racing develop all year long, and should help the fans to pick out the fastest racers amongst the bunch.

Better yet, this Friday marks the first night we’ll be opening the beer garden!  We proudly serve Mac & Jack’s premium brews, renowned in our region for crafting complex and unique beverages that are extremely refreshing.  The beer garden also tends to be a fantastic place to spectate the racing (read, heckle and shout at the racers!).  We hope you’ll join us for the fun in the beverage garden, soon to be also serving OS Winery wines.

What better event to coincide with our first regular season night than the NW Lumberjack World Championships!  It might be slightly tongue-in-cheek, as there are no real truly lumberjack oriented games, but there are certainly some very fun lumberjack-themed cycling games to compete in.  The first night to show your stuff is this upcoming Friday, May 30th!  Here’s the full list of activities:

  • The Cyclo-log Pull
  • The Bike Toss
  • The Two-wheel Limbo

You think you got what it takes to be a grizzly-cyclo-lumberjacking-cyborg-man?  You think you got the wheelset to handle the pressure and to help raise money for Type-1 Diabetes research?  Then let’s get you signed up!  Visit their website to get started.  Registration can be easily completed online and is done through their website.  If you register for the event, you’ll get a ticket into watching racing at 7:00 PM as well.

Everyone that comes to race, spectate or participate in the fundraiser can also purchase some great BBQ food that will be on site.  Price TBD.

We hope to see you out there!
