ItB Day 3 – Kathryn Beattie!

posted in: Uncategorized 0

Today’s introduction is for the biggest job on the block, the Marymoor Velodrome Treasurer Kathryn Beattie! As always, I’ll let them tell their story, but if you’d like to get ahold of the person checking our balances, paying the bills, and keeping tabs on the moneys in our fine organization, Kathryn can no be reached at treasurer@velodrome.org.

Cory: How did you first get into racing?

Kathryn: I barely knew how to ride a bike when I took the track class a few summers back; but I bought a track bike the next day. The track was my first real racing experience.

C: Do you do any other kinds of racing?

K: Since then, I have done some road racing, a bit of cyclocross, and one mountain bike race (the one and only one!). I have even tried racing at Alpenrose and ridden at Burnaby and LA – the short indoor tracks are a blast!!

C: That sounds rather adventurous! What do you do besides push the pedals?

K: I work at UW Medicine – Valley Medical Center as the Chief Medical Officer and am very proud of our hospital and the remarkable care that we take of our community.

C: You can fix people up! We have occasional need for that at the track… tell me some about your family!

K: I have two kids and a sweet chocolate lab named Emma. Lex, my daughter, is 23. She lives in Austin, Tx. I just sent her my first decent road bike so that she can start going on the Mellow Johnny’s shop rides. My son, Jack, is 18 and is in his Freshman year at UW-Tacoma. He is into basketball and lacrosse and thinks that I am crazy to be riding, much less racing, a bike!

C: You can tell your son he is crazy for going to Tacoma and NOT going to the greatest school on earth (PLU, I’m a little bias…). What else might you have to add for the MVA folks out there?

K: I am excited to be on the MVA Board because I would like to be a part of growing the MVA community.  I have volunteered to help new riders racing on Thursday nights and hope to encourage more women and juniors to get into racing on the track.

C: That’s all for this interview – be sure to email any questions or inquiries for our MVA treasurer to the email treasurer@velodrome.org!
