Personal Gold – April 11th 6:30pm

The Marymoor Velodrome Association and the Jennie Reed Foundation invites YOU to a private screening of “Personal Gold Film”, the story of four underdog women who became America’s medal hope following the ban of Lance Armstrong & teammates from the 2012 London Olympics. Join us for an inspiring evening with filmmakers and Olympic Medalists Jennie Reed (Seattle native), Sarah Hammer and Dotsie Bausch at the state-of-the-art 400 seat Kirkland PerformanceCenter.

The proceeds benefit Olympic Hopefuls at both the local Marymoor Velodrome and the Jennie Reed Foundation. The Q&A features behind-the-scenes stories from the Olympic Games, track cycling and insights into the ‘Data not Doping’ approach in the film.

“The best Underdog Story since Rocky IV”!!

Roller Racing Coming Up

posted in: Uncategorized 0
Since we can’t get enough fixed-gear racing action from just one short racing season, the MVA is hosting another set of Roller Racing events during the off-season to get us all “geared up” for this summers high-speed action. You can find us at three different upcoming events, and we hope you’ll be able to make it by to visit us at some or all of them!

MVA @ Women on Wheels Event February 26th at the Greenlake Gregg’s Cycle Store

This annual celebration of Women Cycling is a free event with tons of good reasons to visit. One of those reasons? Roller racing, of course!!

Back by popular demand, we’ll be holding a roller race series throughout the event. Racing will be setup with four categories: Under 20, 20-35,35-50, and 50+. Winners of each category will receive a FREE track class voucher (usually $50 to sign-up).

If you’re not wanting to race and just want to stop by, we’ll also be giving out information about racing at the Velodrome as well as our excellent classes and clinics.

MVA @ the Bike Show, Feb 28th and March 1st

We’ll have a setup at Century Link Field for the big Bike Show. If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and give the roller race rig a try! You can find out more about this year’s Seattle Bike Show on their website.

4th Annual MVA Roller Racing Series March 21st at the Element Cycles E-Lab (next door to the store)

The Roller Racing Series continues! This year, Element Cycles will play host to this part fun, part competitive, big part goofy get together of Velodrome athletes and their families. Open to anyone (you just
need to get there and use our equipment), it’s actually a great way to try fixed gear bicycles if you haven’t gotten the opportunity yet. There is no cost to register and participate (donations are always an option!) Here’s the nuts and bolts of the racing:

  • We have access to warm-up bikes so that you can be ready for your absolute best effort on the rollers
  • No bike or helmet necessary, or even special shoes – the bikes are ready for anyone to use!
  • They can be adjusted for just about any height, so young teens can also jump on
  • Gears will be restricted to 48×15, so say hello to Cat 4/5 gear restrictions (and lots of good spin!)
  • Racing will be divided up into categores – Male U18, Elite, Masters and Female U18, Elite and Masters. If you’re looking for a trophy, the fastest lap time will take the prize!

And with all the marymoorcrawl.com excitement floating around lately, now’s a good time to also mention the addition of the Track Stand Competition! The goal is to get keep the bike in a track stand for as long as possible. The longest track stand takes home the prize!

Can’t wait to see all the MVA folks out for a great event. Check out/save/share/print out the poster at right and we’ll see you there!

Upcoming Off-Season Clinics

posted in: Uncategorized 0

What is an off-season clinic you say? An opportunity to sit down (with the option to have an alcohol drink in hand) and learn from the best. Our two experts will be Jennie Reed and Zak Kovalcik who will be presenting in their areas of expertise (sprinting and endurance). The presenters will go over basic and advanced tactics, stories, videos and have a section for questions. After each of these clinics the party will continue at Element Cycles with our Roller Racing and Track Standing competitions starting at 6pm.

March 21st 3-5pm Advanced Sprint Clinic

With Jennie Reed located at the SecondStory Repertory Hideaway in the Redmond Town Center.

A little bit more about Jennie: Jennie Reed is Washington’s cycling hero. She has won a World Championship, an Olympic Silver Medal and participated in three different Olympic Games. She is truly an expert in everything track cycling! She won the 2008 World Championship in the Keirin and earned a Silver Medal from the Olympics in the Team Pursuit. For this clinic she will be focusing on her sprinting tactics which will include match sprinting and keirin racing!

April 4th 3-5pm International Omnium Clinic

With Zak Kovalcik located at the SecondStory Repertory Hideaway in the Redmond Town Center.

A little bit more about Zak: Zak Kovalcik is a 3x National Champion and Professional Road Cyclist. He started out as a courier and has worked his way into the international ranks. Zak is also a vegan athlete! Check out a video about him here: https://vimeo.com/76321875
