Regular Season Racing – THIS WEEK!

posted in: Uncategorized 0

With one week of May left, it’s time to turn up the action at the Velodrome! After several weeks of pre-season (aka, getting the kinks out), the MVA is about to dial in the regular racing season, bringing with it a host of exciting changes for this next week. Everything you love about the Velodrome will be back and better than ever, so head on out and watch, cheer, or race your way through summer!

Racing Schedule Change

Racers beware – the regular season starting coincides with the start of our youth classes, and in general our calendar will get much more filled in. This impacts available training time! Please check the calendar frequently to ensure you don’t make the trip to the track for nothing! If you’re on the track and we have a scheduled event, you will be asked to leave. Thank you!

With the regular season comes our summer weekly racing schedule. Unlike years previous, we’re going to roll-out the regular schedule all at once! That means Monday Night, Wednesday Night, Thursday Night, AND Friday Night are up an rollin’. As always, racing starts at 7:00 PM every night, weather permitting.

Monday Night – Juniors, Master B’s, Sprints

Wednesday Night – Cat 4 Men, Cat 4 Women, Master A’s

Thursday Night – Beginners (those who have taken the beginning course and need track experience)

Friday Night ($5 spectator admission) – Cat 1/2 Men, Cat 3 Men, Cat 1/2/3 Women

Friday Night Racing

FNR is the hallmark of our weekly racing program, with our regions fastest and most experienced riders battling out for bragging rights. Season long points goes towards an epic summer-long competition. Our weekly schedule provides unique races and exciting competition that will keep you wanting more. And of course, we have a great deal of extra things on offer for your Friday evening.

The Clif Kiddie Kilo presented by Menchies – On the first and third Friday of the month, our family-friendly, one (sometimes two) lap competition comes to the track of champions! Kids aged 2-12 are the stars of this race! Push bikes, tricycles… anything, as long as they got a helmet on. Registration is free but closes when racing begins so show up early and have your young one give the track a try.

Beverage Garden – With the regular season, our beverage garden should be open too! …. But it’s not entirely, 100% ready to pour. Believe me, you will KNOW when it’s ready to go – our twitter and facebook pages will make it quite apparent! In the meantime, study up on the sponsors we have for 2015.

Food Trucks – We also like to take care of your hunger while at the track. Spicy Papaya and Kirkland Tacos will be there frequently, and Menchies will be there on the first and third Fridays for sure! (Gotta give those kiddie kilo riders their reward!) The trucks will rotate, so stop by and see what great food you can pick up while watching the racing.

Season Points and Leaders Jerseys

Finishing at the top end of a race nets our competitors points that go towards a summer-long total. In addition this year every rider that starts a race will receive one season point, so consistency does pay off! Those totals are what we use to determine season winners, much in the same way winners of the Tour de France and other multi-stage races are selected. And just like those races, we too have Leaders Jerseys so you can easily pick out who has the most points heading into a given night! Let’s take a look at our categories with jerseys and their great sponsors.

Cat 4 Men – Sponsored by Element Cycles

Cat 1/2 Men – Sponsored by JL Velo

Cat 3 Men – Sponsored by Gregg’s Cycles

Cat 1/2/3 Women – Sponsored by Cascade Bicycle Club

See you at the track!!

10 Days to Racing!!!

posted in: Uncategorized 0

Is it really true? Could we be upon the start of the 2015 Marymoor Velodrome Season?!?! Well, sorta! The official season is coming soon, but Pre-season racing starts in only 10 days. Time to get ready for the awesome that is MVA Racing!

Membership Reminders

If you plan to race this season, you’ll need to pay to be a season member. Reduced from last year, membership fees are $75 per racer. Being a member brings some perks (training night eligibility, motorpacing, giving back to our awesome community) but more importantly you only have so many races before you have to pay for a membership. And hey, nightly fees are reduced for members too! Here’s the break-down one more time.

Rental Bikes

The BRAND NEW MVA RENTAL BIKES (sorry, it’s exciting) are available for Cat 4’s and beginners! Of course, we have gear restrictions in place this season to promote healthy and effective competition for our racers. For only $10, you can get your very own rental track bike for race night!

Spectators for Pre-Season

It’s always worth remembering… invite out your friends, family and co-workers for pre-season! Spectating is free all week long, even on Friday Nights! Bring on the spectators and help them fall in love with all the racing action before the real season gets started.

Registration lines long!

Not to be a downer, but our registration lines have proved to be rather loooooooong at times. Especially during pre-season. Arrive early and head to the registration window right away to avoid the lines. The track is open rather early for warm-ups, so don’t be stuck behind the wait!

Race Book Available!

Last, but not least, it’s time to take a look at the “race book”. This exhaustive document includes TONS of info, prize breakdowns, the overall schedule, as well as generic race descriptions for the formats offered up at Marymoor. Check it out here! Also, leave comments at our forum post here!

Beverage Garden Sponsors Galore!!

posted in: Uncategorized 0
Dear Marymoor Velodrome,
All this talk about racing and starting the season has got me slightly parched. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like a good track race, but I must say the days can often carry on well into the evening, and I’m a fan who just needs a BIT more incentive to come out to the track sometimes. If only the track could offer me, a loyal fan who is definitely not the Web Admin writing in a strange disembodied first-person voice, some adult refreshments to wet my whistle.

Well thirsty “fan”, let’s see if we can satisfy your craving.

We begin our tour with the finest Northwest Grape Juice. It’s old, but somehow that makes it better?

OS Winery once again brings back the custom Red Line label to support the track in the 2015 season. If you haven’t tried it yet, your wine-loving, i’m-better-then-you, sophisticated self is really crying out for some. This unique red blend is really enjoyable and was made just for us! Get a glass in the beverage garden or take home a bottle.

Check them out on their website, like them on facebook, and follow them on twitter @OSWinery

Next stop on our boozy tour, we venture forth in search of the perfect balance of wheat, barley, yeast, hops, happiness, poor decisions, some kind of connection to watching lots of sports, hippy combinations with fruits and stuff, something about Belgium vs everything else, ales, IPA’s, darks, stouts, blondes, creams, reds, and lots of other things that could be mistaken for descriptors of hair color… BEEEEEER!!!

Mac & Jack’s makes a triumphant return as our beer sponsor for the 2015 season, providing us with keg after keg of their fantastic brewed gold. The African Amber and the Two Tun IPA make up the majority of the stuff. And it’s good stuff! Come down to the track and enjoy a pint (or two, or three if it’s with me)!

Check out their website, like them on facebook, and follow them on twitter @MJBrewery.
And for our final stop… it’s not hard alcohol? Oh wait, it’s cider? Wasn’t expecting that one!

The MVA is excited to announce our newest beverage sponsor to the track, Locust Cider! Locust Cider is a racer-owned establishment that couldn’t help but give back something to the greatest track on earth. Using mostly Pacific Northwest apples, the cider they are blessing our taste buds with is a traditional cider, which they describe as accessible, gluten free and on the dry-end of the spectrum. They use some kind of fancy cold fermentation process with something about aging or… just try this stuff. Seriously. I feel like I’m writing a novel about stuff that practically sells itself.

If you want to support them in person, the Cidery will be open soon in Woodinville at 19151 144th Ave NE.

Check out their website, like them on facebook, and follow them on twitter @locustcider

And some fun sneak peak progress photos of Locust – looking AWESOME!

Hope everyone is thirsty – see you at the track!
