ItB Day 3 – Kathryn Beattie!

posted in: Uncategorized 0

Today’s introduction is for the biggest job on the block, the Marymoor Velodrome Treasurer Kathryn Beattie! As always, I’ll let them tell their story, but if you’d like to get ahold of the person checking our balances, paying the bills, and keeping tabs on the moneys in our fine organization, Kathryn can no be reached at treasurer@velodrome.org.

Cory: How did you first get into racing?

Kathryn: I barely knew how to ride a bike when I took the track class a few summers back; but I bought a track bike the next day. The track was my first real racing experience.

C: Do you do any other kinds of racing?

K: Since then, I have done some road racing, a bit of cyclocross, and one mountain bike race (the one and only one!). I have even tried racing at Alpenrose and ridden at Burnaby and LA – the short indoor tracks are a blast!!

C: That sounds rather adventurous! What do you do besides push the pedals?

K: I work at UW Medicine – Valley Medical Center as the Chief Medical Officer and am very proud of our hospital and the remarkable care that we take of our community.

C: You can fix people up! We have occasional need for that at the track… tell me some about your family!

K: I have two kids and a sweet chocolate lab named Emma. Lex, my daughter, is 23. She lives in Austin, Tx. I just sent her my first decent road bike so that she can start going on the Mellow Johnny’s shop rides. My son, Jack, is 18 and is in his Freshman year at UW-Tacoma. He is into basketball and lacrosse and thinks that I am crazy to be riding, much less racing, a bike!

C: You can tell your son he is crazy for going to Tacoma and NOT going to the greatest school on earth (PLU, I’m a little bias…). What else might you have to add for the MVA folks out there?

K: I am excited to be on the MVA Board because I would like to be a part of growing the MVA community.  I have volunteered to help new riders racing on Thursday nights and hope to encourage more women and juniors to get into racing on the track.

C: That’s all for this interview – be sure to email any questions or inquiries for our MVA treasurer to the email treasurer@velodrome.org!

ItB Day 2 – Kristian Miller!

posted in: Uncategorized 0

Today’s introduction is for the Marymoor Velodrome Associations Board President, Kristian Miller! Our designated board leader and defacto head of state has a lot on his plate getting ready for next season, but he was kind enough to share some words about himself and what he’s looking forward to in the upcoming season. To reach Kristian, email him at admin@velodrome.org. Read on for more on our Board President.

Cory: What can you tell me about your family?

Kristian: Well that’s an odd one. I live alone in Seattle so…

C: Right, bad place to start. How about plans for a family?

K: I got a whole lot going on right now…

C: Of course. Any pets?

K: That dream has yet to be realized.

C: Well do you at least have a spirit animal?

K: It would look something like this…

I kid you not – his response was “I’d like a dog, especially one with a scrunchy face?”

C: Fair enough. How about what you do for a ‘living’.

K: I’m an economist for a video game company in Bellevue, and it’s a pretty fun gig if you can get into it. I dive into data and defend ancients from time to time.

C: I’d imagine that’s quite fun. Let’s talk more about you and cycling!

K: I’m the Cat 2 you’re most likely to see suffering in Off-The-Bakistan out at Marymoor. I dabble in crits and kermesses, and one day I will stop fixing up my cyclocross bike and actually race it.

C: I don’t envy you then. What would you say to our MVA followers out there about next year?

K: I’m excited for this coming season, as I think we’ve built a really great foundation in the past few years from which to grow further. The track is the best place to race in the Pacific Northwest, and the community is phenomenal. You meet awesome people like me and all those other cyclists, and we give you plenty of reason to come back time and time again.

C: Awesome! Be sure to email Kristian at his new MVA email admin@velodrome.org if you have anything for him.

2014 Sponsor Thank You!

posted in: Uncategorized 0

The 2014 season saw yet another great year from our local coporate sponsors. As a non-profit organization, the MVA is always looking for help to offer up quality racing and training programs throughout the year, and our sponsors were awesome enough to step up once again and make it all possible. Time to put our internet hands together and give our supporters a massive round of applause (or a cheer of course).

Let’s take a look at all our sponsors from last year!

Fred’s Race Sponsors – First Strike Velo, Bikesport, Jet City Velo, Broadmark Captial, and The Resistance.

Marymoor Grand Prix Sponsors – Broadmark Capital Cycling, Catherine C Clark, Cycle Science Training, and Menchies.

Year-Round Financial Sponsors – John Duggan Cycling Attorney, Gregg’s Cycle, Element Cycles, Recycled Cycles, Garage Billiards, and La Isla Cuisine.

Merchandise Sponsors – Nutcase Helmets, Mac & Jack’s BreweryOS Winery, JL Velo, and Nuun.

Celebrating our Year

With the help of our members and our sponsors, we had another great year of racing at the velodrome. We wanted to share with you some highlights from the 2014 year, in part to celebrate all the great work accomplished by the velodrome this past year.

Average Attendance: On a night to night basis, we averaged just under 50 riders throughout the week, with our highest attendance at 65 and our lowest at 28.

New Riders: We added 186 new riders to the track this year. On top of that is 39 new Juniors through the Jennie Reed junior program!

Returning Riders: A good show of confidence is just how many riders returned from last year – 215!

Thanks again for everyone’s continuing support of the Marymoor Velodrome. Our community is extremely thankful and fortunate to live in such a cycling-positive region.
